What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear the word Pop? Is it a special year, a feeling or maybe a dance move.
Pop music is perceived differently by different people and the associated names of the genre will probably be various depending on who you are talking to. If you ask young people of today they will probably mention artists like Justine Bieber or Ed Sheran, being two of the biggest names right now. If you ask their older brothers and sisters they will probably mention names like N’sync or Spice Girls. If you ask the even older generation – their parents- they will associate pop music with big artists like Madonna or Michael Jackson, also known as the “King and Queen of pop”.
At Happy Plugs we see pop as the type of music that gets “stuck on your mind”. You can hear pop almost everywhere you go as the songs are played in stores, commercials and bars on a Friday night. Maybe that is why so many people connect to the genre. Being almost unavoidable. The real pop classics live on for generations and won’t be forgotten anytime soon.
Pop music can be a sort of “guilty pleasure” for some people since it’s considered mainstream and not cool enough. But when the top pop song starts playing even the coolest kids on the block cant help themselves moving to the catchy rhythms and singing along to the simple lyrics.
To quote Michael Jackson: “Just beat it!”
